PennDesign Fall 2014

The animation shows the layering of information, gathered from GIS, to extract the most relevant data sets to arrive at a location and concept for a design intervention. Through the analysis and comparison of vacant lots, slope, aspect, and proximity to parks, I proposed these vacant lots would have ideal microclimates for hemlocks. If Pittsburgh, formerly a steel powerhouse, began to plant hemlocks across the city in ideal vacant lots in this manner, it could re-brand itself as the Hemlock Lot City.
