Curated Culture

Site: Wynwood, Miami, Florida
Studio Critic: Brian Phillips
PennDesign Fall 2012

This studio reconsidered the condominium in Miami, Florida in the wake of the 2008 housing market crash so as to retool the typology to current needs and future implications. Site specificity allows design to symbiotically plug directly into the existing urban fabric. In this way, the building can adapt and remain relevant as the neighborhood develops over time. Drawing tectonics from the unique neighborhood of Wynwood, the resulting form arises from external forces as well as programmatic needs and adjacencies. The condominium thus contains programmatic space that engages the community (galleries, restaurant, and bar) while also allowing the condo to contribute to existing neighborhood cultures.
